I was out, with my friend, on fishing today. We tried to catch some bass but were unsuccessful. Conditions were not right, so we knew we had a little chance for success  but tried to catch something anyway. Clear water, extremely low tide.

Oh well, if nothing we at least had some exercise. I tried something that resembles shore jigging the most, you take a cast master, cast it as far as you can and then jig it back. I tell you it is hard and painful job.

I guess that depends of the fish we’re expecting to catch. I personally mostly fish for Pike, Perch, Trout, Chub and Seabass. This year I’ll try to add another category, called LRF¹.  Ok, let’s get back on. The thing is that lure size depend mostly on fish we’re expecting to catch. For example; when fishing for pike I use lures bigger than 10 cm, I wont even look at smaller lures. But, when I go Trout² fishing, I won’t even look at  lures bigger than 7 or 9 cm, or mepps above #3.

And then we come to Bass fishing. Here it gets a little bit complicated, at least for us who fish on Adriatic sea. Bass can be pretty picky about what are they gong to eat. In summer when there are a lot of fish near the coast they are very hard to get in lures. If anything, they will take smaller lures under 10cm long. In winter when their food sources are scarce  they tend to attack bigger lures, 13, 15 even 17 cm long. Because of that I always have in my lure box a mixed companion of lures, some smaller and some bigger ones. But I don’t go above 13 cm. I just kind of don’t like big lures, although I am aware of that sometimes bigger can be better.

So, If someone asked me to decide between smaller or bigger lures I would definitely go for smaller ones. I think they’re easier to properly present them  to the fish. They respond better to twitching, jerking, stop ‘n’ go, and so on. For example; with that Max Rap 130 I pretty much can not do anything else but steady retrieve it. An this is BORING, I love to work with my hands while retrieving the lure. The second thing I like on smaller lures are details. Despite they’re small they can be made very detailed. And I love details. Plus, with smaller lure you can catch bigger and smaller fish, unlike when fishing with big lures you probably wont catch smaller fish.
And that’s why I love DUO lures, because they have a wide range of small lures suitable for LRF, Trout and Chub fishing.

Sploh center. Ampak čim prideš malo bolj ven, recimo do prul in trnovega je že drugače. Pa ne mislim na slabše.

Takole grem včasih ob Ljubljanici pri Prulah in ko vidim tisti čolnarski center in pristan z temi ladjami na vodi, se mi skoraj lahko zazdi kot da sem mogoče kje v Srbiji ob Savi ali Donavi. Čeprav v resnici nikoli še nisem bil tam, ampak upam, da kdaj bom.

Tako vse bolj balkansko izgleda z tistimi lesenimi pomoli, rečnimi barkami na katerh so bari, razni čolni, race, celo nutrije,…

Všeč mi je ta Balkan.

Must have at least one of these.  And here some problems showed up. Most stores I could find that have DUO in their catalog sell Tide Minnow series. And here comes my second problem, most of these lures are off my lure budget limit. Most of them cost like 22-25 pounds which is around 25-30 euros, and most postal charges are too high to buy just one lure. Beside that, I’m more interested in smaller lures from DUO, like Tetra Works series, and Spearhed series.

But then I found out that one of the stores here in my country just started to sell DUO. Oh my! Need them, I must have them! I’m gonna go crazy if I don’t buy at least one. So I went and bought two lures. First I almost bought Toto 42 and Yurameki,  but then I changed my mind and bought Toto 42¹ and By Ruf SV-70².

The same day I bought these two awesomenesses  we also went Egigng. A very successful technique invented by Japanese for squid fishing from shore. I’ve never tried this type of fishing before. ActuallyI never liked squid fishing at all, because our traditional technique is dyingly boring. But Eging is awesome, not boring at all.
So this was also a good chance to try how the new lures work. And I was impressed immediately. I tided on Bay Ruf and made first cast, and then second. BAM, strike! Omg, what was that? I first thought that it was a sea-bass who attacked the lure but didn’t hook properly and immediately fell off. But on the end, a decent goby was hooked on. That explained the strike and later no fighting back.

Now, let’s say something about eging part of the fishing. It was my first time to try this technique, as I’ve already mentioned before. I like this technique, because it is more dynamic than our traditional. It is also pretty technical. You must know what lure to use in certain conditions and so on.
Because I don’t have my own set of lures, yet!, my friend Jolly borrowed me one. So I was able to learn the proper technique. With old lures I have, one can also do this technique, but it’s not the same as if you have lures specifically made for it.

Unfortunately, despite I basically knew how to do this technique, and had a proper lure, I caught nothing. But I’m not disappointed at all. Plus, conditions were not ideal, it was just after Burja sopped blowing in the morning of that day. And first days after Burja usually are not very good for squid fishing.

But! We didn’t go home without a catch! Jolly caught a couple of cuttlefish AND one squid. It weighted at least a kilo if not more. Just look at that “kursk”.

I’m already planing to buy at least a few of these Yamashita lures and head out to try to catch some squid next time.
